Research Position on COLOR CHARCTERIZATION OF digital pathology SYTEMS

 

The Division of Imaging, Diagnostics, and Software Reliability (DIDSR) in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Silver Spring, MD is seeking an entry-level researcher for projects involving the color characterization of medical imaging systems. This project will focus on establishing standard test methods for whole-slide imaging scanner devices used in pathology. The candidate will assist with developing test methods and instruments for evaluating the color performance of whole-slide imaging scanners and viewers. The candidate will also participate in writing journal publications. The selected candidate will join an active research group in regulatory science areas in experimental and computational medical imaging in the White Oak campus in Silver Spring (see links below) within the metropolitan DC region with multiple opportunities for further training and collaborations within and outside the FDA.


This training fellowship position is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and is open to current students and those who have graduated within the last five years. The position is funded for one year, with possibility for extension. Candidates must undergo a background investigation and need to have resided in the United States for at least three of the past five years.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS


Required qualifications

·         M.S. degree (or B.S. degree + 3 years of academic/industry research experience) in color engineering, optical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or biomedical engineering

·         Expertise in colorimetry, ICC color profiling, color science, or hyperspectral imaging

·         Proficiency in Matlab or C/C++ programming languages


Desired qualifications

·         Ph.D. degree in one of the fields listed above

·         Expertise in digital imaging at the microscopic level

·         Experience with laser systems, especially those used for direct laser writing

·         Experience with photopolymers, especially those used with two-photon polymerization
