Multiple Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Positions in Endoscopic Instrumentation Department of Biomedical Engineering, Texas A&M University, College Station-Texas
The Laboratory for Optical Diagnosis and Imaging (http://biomed.tamu.edu/LODI) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for multiple research scientist and postdoctoral positions in the area of endoscopic instrumentation development. Ideal candidates should have expertise in optical design, data acquisition instrumentation and software development, and substantial demonstrated experience in optical imaging and/or spectroscopic instrumentation design and implementation. Experience in fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) and/or optical coherence tomography (OCT) is highly desirable. Successful applicants will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary and international team focused on developing and clinically validating optical endoscopic tools for label-free in-situ cancer detection. Excellent opportunities exist for collaborating closely with researchers and clinicians at various academic and clinical institutions, including UT Health Science Center, UT Southwestern, TAMU School of Dentistry, UT Dallas, Hamad Medical Corporation (Doha, Qatar), Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (San Luis Potosí, Mexico), Pontificia Universidad Católica del Peru (Lima, Peru), and University of Sao Paulo (Sao Paulo, Brazil).
Responsibilities include some or all of the following:
· Designing, implementing, testing and maintaining optical systems for FLIM and/or OCT imaging.
· Designing, implementing, testing and maintaining rigid and flexible endoscopes for FLIM and/or OCT imaging in clinical settings.
· Developing, testing and maintaining software and intuitive graphic user interfaces (GUI) for semi-automated FLIM and/or OCT image acquisition and visualization in clinical settings.
· Designing and implementing experimental protocols for calibrating and standardizing endoscopic tools used at multiple clinical and testing centers.
· Designing clinical imaging protocols; preparing and submitting IRB applications.
· Training health care personnel on the correct use of the developed endoscopic tools.
· Coordinating clinical imaging protocols at different clinical centers in the U.S. and abroad.
· Taking the lead on preparing scientific conference and journal publications.
Additional exciting opportunities include:
· Working closely with the FDA to develop a plan for filing 510(k) applications of the endoscopic tools for specific cancer detection clinical applications.
· Working closely with the Texas A&M Technology Commercialization Office to develop a plan for protecting and/or securing intellectual property relevant for the commercialization of these endoscopic tools.
· Applying for research funding as co-investigator or principal investigator.
Requirements:
· Have a doctoral degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent.
· Have extensive experience developing instrumentation and software for optical spectroscopy and/or imaging data collection and visualization, and for automated data quality assessment.
· Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Being self-motivated, independent, driven, responsible and a true team player.
Terms:
· Full time position (40 hours/week)
· Temporary 1-year position, with intention to extend upon performance evaluation.
· For additional information, please contact Dr. Javier A. Jo (Email: javierjo@tamu.edu)
Application Process:
Please submit via email to javierjo@tamu.edu, the following documents:
· Cover letter, briefly highlighting relevant experience and career objectives (max 1 page)
· Statement of research (max 1 page)
· Complete updated curriculum vitae
· Most relevant publication (only one)
· List of names and contact information for three references
Evaluation of applications will begin on May 1st, 2018 and will continue until all the positions are filled. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
