Research Fellow Position in Optical Imaging

An opening is available for a research fellow in the Optical Molecular Imaging laboratory, at

the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard

Medical School. This is an exciting opportunity to work in the emerging field of molecular imaging,

which combines the use of cutting edge imaging technology with recent advances in our understanding

of the molecular underpinnings of disease and advances in development of molecular probes to target

disease in vivo.

 

The research fellow will specifically work on novel time domain optical imaging technologies for both

preclinical and clinical applications of cancer, diabetes and cardiac disease. The research fellow is

expected to have a strong interest and involvement in all aspects of the research, including the

development and use of imaging system, acquisition software, physics and mathematics of light

propagation and reconstruction algorithms, small animal procedures (such as injections, post-mortem

surgery) and the writing and maintenance of protocols. There can be some flexibility in the balance

between the biological and engineering aspects of the work depending on the candidate’s proficiency

and career goals, but the candidate should express enthusiasm to learn all aspects of the imaging

technology and explore applications to biological problems.

 

Requirements: The candidate will ideally will have a PhD degree in biomedical optics. But candidates

with a PhD in pure sciences (chemistry/physics/biology) or engineering who have a strong interest in

applying their skills for biomedical science are also strongly encouraged to apply. Previous experience in

one or more of the following areas would be a strong plus: experimental optics, imaging, computational

physics, partial differential equations, programming experience in the C/C++/Matlab, expertise in

working with animal models of disease.
