Applicants are sought for a JOINT POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP involving the Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical photodynamic therapy (PDT) research program and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The related research will employ modern biomedical optics techniques to measure tissue hemodynamics, carry out PDT dosimetry, and develop schemes for treatment planning. This project is funded by NIH P01 grants and is for a period of at least 2 years. Current projects include clinical implementation of blood flow measurements, development of innovative light blanket for pleural PDT treatment, development of a treatment planning system for pleural PDT with real-time image guidance, characterization of tissue optical properties in-vivo, light fluence calculation and light source optimization for light delivery, diffuse-optical tomography, diffuse absorption spectra to monitor in vivo tissue oxygenation, blood volume, and drug concentration, and singlet oxygen modeling and parameter determinations.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in engineering, physical sciences or equivalent is required. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record in biomedical research, especially in optical spectroscopy and in finite-element analysis. Experience in the following is highly desired: programming in Matlab, photon transport in tissue, medical imaging, fiber optics and lasers, small animal handling, and optical instrumentation design.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the applicants experience. To apply, submit a CV and the names of three references to:
