Perelman Center of Advanced Medicine University of Pennsylvania

ONE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP is available in the Department of Radiation Oncology’s clinical photodynamic therapy (PDT) research program, focusing on PDT dosimetry and treatment planning. This project is funded by NIH grants and is for a period of 2 years. Current projects include singlet oxygen explicit dosimetry (SOED) modeling and parameter determinations, development of innovative light blanket for pleural PDT treatment, development of a treatment planning system for pleural PDT with real-time image guidance, characterization of tissue optical properties in- vivo, light fluence calculation and light source optimization for light delivery, diffuse- optical tomography, diffuse absorption spectra to monitor in vivo tissue oxygenation, blood volume, and drug concentration. Responsibilities will also consist of design and development of a GUI-based treatment planning system for image-guided treatment planning system (IGPDT). Additional responsibility includes deformable image registration with other image modalities (MRI and CT) for IGPDT and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT).

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in engineering, physical sciences or equivalent is required and preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record in biomedical research, especially in optical spectroscopy, multi-modality image registration and in finite-element analysis. Experience in the following is highly desired: programming in Matlab, photon transport in tissue, medical imaging, fiber optics and lasers, small animal handling, and optical instrumentation design. To apply, submit a CV and the names of three references.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience. Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae to:
